Open Interest OI
The total value of outstanding derivatives contracts — futures or options — that have not been settled.
Open interest measures the total notional value of open futures or options positions. Rising OI with rising price indicates new money entering a trend; falling OI with falling price suggests liquidation-driven selling rather than organic selling. Very high OI relative to historical norms signals elevated leverage in the market and increased vulnerability to cascading liquidations if price moves sharply.
